American lit
OH
MY
GOODNESS
I think I largely underrated the difficulty of becoming an English teacher. The thing is, I was always good at English, I'm a good reader, and I'm a good writer. The issue though, is that I haven't actually read that much since school, and further, I didn't take many LIT courses in college.
Now, I'm supposed to CLEP out of three courses, and I just downloaded the study guide for American lit - HOLY mother of pearl, I don't know anything. I've never studied this stuff! I truly don't know how I'm going to pass it. I guess I can actually try to get my hands on a syllabus and just read like crazy, but dang, I think it's gonna be really hard. I'm not sure I'll pass. Which would be a huge bummer since the test is 87 dollars. I want to just take as many classes as I can - like online through MCC or the pathways course at Roberts, but that would add up SO quickly.
I'm so worried.
like why haven't I been reading.
part of me wants to just suck it up and read an anthology or two, and fingers crossed I pass this test - then I'll take advanced Comp, then I can MCC children's lit, women in Lit, and hopefully something else.
Then, in addition, I'd like to join the book of the month club, and just utilize the library more.
There will always be curriculum with old books that have profound messages. but it's also important to just keep reading new things, stay on top of it, and keep learning always.
I think this is a good plan.
Now I just need to go find an anthology hahahah.
